Base64 encoder & decoder
Encode text to Base64 or decode it back, including emoji and accented characters. Drop a file to get a data URI.
Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server.
Encoders
What is Base64?
Base64 represents binary data using 64 printable characters (A–Z, a–z, 0–9, + and /). Every 3 bytes become 4 characters, so encoded data is about 33% larger. It’s used for email attachments, data URIs in HTML and CSS, and embedding binary data in JSON.
URL-safe Base64 swaps + and / for - and _ and often drops the = padding, so the result can sit in a URL or file name. JWTs use it.
Base64 is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it.
Frequently asked questions
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 only changes how data is written; anyone can decode it. Use proper encryption for secrets.
Does it handle emoji and accents?
Yes. Text is converted to UTF-8 bytes before encoding, so any language works.
Does the JWT decoder verify signatures?
No. It decodes the header and payload only. Verifying requires the signing key, which should stay on your server.
